The Eglinton Basket Hilt has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. The basket, guard and pommel are of antique-finished steel. The grip is genuine blackened rayskin overlaid with twisted steel wire. The sword comes with a companion scabbard of black leather fitted with an antique-finished steel chape and throat. This Eglinton is named after the castle which holds one of these 18th century swords in its collection. A basket hilt of this type is seen in the ‘’The Pinch of Snuff’’ portrait of an 18th century Highlander Officer. The stout blade is dual-fullered to reduce weight and the basket is large enough to allow for even a fairly large hand. Basket-Hilted swords of this type taper enough to make them an able thrusting sword yet they retain more than enough blade ‘’meat’’ to ensure that they can admirably cut and hack. Woe to the 18th century soldiers who find themselves set upon by Highlanders with basket hilted swords at the tip of the Highland Charge! SHARPENING INFO: If you opt to have the sword sharpened by our service the false edge will be sharpened unless specified otherwise. What happened to the reviews? |
