A unique and capable design, this Irish Arming Sword is one of the rare examples of Medieval sword design which is immediately identifiable as belonging to a specific national culture. The open-ring pommel seems common to Ireland, though notably rare elsewhere. Some speculate that the open ring on some of these swords may have once been covered with medallions of some other thin metal cover. Many of these swords also have the wide, spatulated quillons as seen in this recreation by Arms & Armor.

The blade of this Irish Arming Sword is crafted from 6150 high carbon steel with a tempered 50 HRC hardness. The hilt is steel and the wooden grip is finished with a leather wrap which was stitched and then shrunk to a tight, durable and long-lasting fit with beeswax - a traditional and practical method for finishing a medieval sword grip. The grip is dyed a mottled brown.

Agile and responsive, this sword is not merely one of the more fetching of medieval designs - it has plenty of ‘’meat’’ in the width of the blade coupled with a shallow, flattened cross section to ensure it cuts and slices with grand authority in capable hands. A tapered tip stiffened with a central ridge ensures it will capably pierce as well.
