The Highland Claymore is one of the most distinct swords of history and unlike many contemporary greatswords and two-handed swords its design is uniquely linked to a specific region and people. This recreation by Arms & Armor is reproduced from an existing claymore in a private collection and it was chosen because it was an excellent example which carried all the main features of the claymore – namely a broad blade, swept quatrefoil crossguard and a wheel pommel with a crescent washer and peen block.

The blade is well-tempered 6150 high carbon steel with a sharp edge. The guard and pommel are steel and the hardwood grip is bound in stitched leather which was treated with beeswax and then shrunk to create a tight, durable and high quality grip wrap. This method of wrapping a grip was a traditional and practical method for finishing a sword.

Arms & Armors attention to detail has made this claymore more historically accurate and lighter than many lesser reproductions. For its size this sword is surprisingly easy to wield and its broad blade with a sharp edge will slice and cut with grand efficiency.
