Help

Although the Renaissance saw the emergence of a number of new swords to suit new purposes, the battlefield with its great prevalence of armor saw many tried and true late medieval designs continue into use. This sword is a good example, for beneath the swept hilt of curved bars and hand guards, is the profile of a hand and a half sword. Swords such as this were a compromise between the single-handed sword and the longsword.

A good hand and a half sword has a grip long enough to accommodate a second hand to offer its wielder greater speed and power that comes with two handed use. It also has a good balance so that it can be effectively wielded by a single hand near the crossguard. This hand and a half by Armour Class of Scotland, is one such sword. Being a later Renaissance design, it has an elaborate hilt that not only protects the hand when placing the index finger over the crossguard for greater control, but can also be used by the skillful swordsman to entrap the blade of a foe.

This sword, has a sharpened blade of EN45 high carbon steel with a HRC of 50. The pommel and crossguard is of darkened steel. The grip is tightly wrapped with spiralled brown leather.
