The Holbein Dagger has a blade forged from high carbon steel; the hilt is carved and polished wood surmounted with a brass guard and pommel. The scabbard is crafted from brass.

A descendent of the baselard dagger, the Holbein dagger is representative of a style of sidearm typical popular is late Medieval and Renaissance Switzerland and southernmost Germany – it was particularly favored by the famed Swiss Mercenaries who found gainful employment throughout Europe. These Swiss Daggers are colloquially referred to as Holbein Daggers due to the 16th century artist Hans Holbein, who designed an intricate depiction of The Dance of Death upon the scabbard for a dagger such as this.
