EN45 High Carbon Steel
Spearhead Weight: 14.7 oz
Buttspike Weight: 1 lb 0.2 oz

This Greek Spear Set includes a spearhead and a pyramidal Sauroter buttspike for fitting onto a dory spear. The spearhead’s thick blade edges are unsharpened and the tip is rounded. The Sauroter butt spike tapers to an acute tip. Both parts are forged from steel and have sockets with an approximate diameter of 7/8 of an inch (2.22 cm).

The diameter of the sockets can vary slightly so it is advised that the spear pole (not included) is tapered for an optimal fit. Pre-drilled holes allow for the use of screws or rivets to firmly anchor these steel fittings into position. Mounting hardware not included.

The Dory Spear was the main weapon of the hoplite in their Phalanx formation; the spearpoint was long and deadly and could strike with great force due to the mass of the haft and spearhead imparting all its force onto a single, concentrated tip.

The long, pyramidal butt spike was known to the Greeks as a ‘’Sauroter’’ which means ‘’lizard killer’’ - a hint as to one use Greek warriors may have found for it when on guard duty or on the march. The real purpose of the Sauroter was both to counterbalance the spearhead and as a secondary weapon should the main spearhead be damaged or lost mid-battle.
