By the high middle ages, Viking Swords had begun to lose some of their more characteristic features; namely the wide, low-tapering blade and the lobed pommel. Viking swords began to look more like the characteristic swords of the larger continent. This is evident in this sword, which has replaced the lobe pommel with the brazil-nut shape and the short, thick crossguard of earlier weapons has thinned and extended into a characteristic medieval cruciform. This blade however, retains its thick profile, wide fuller and low-taper characteristic of its older ancestral swords.

This late-era Viking sword is made with a blade of high carbon steel. The hilt fittings are of steel and the grip is tightly wrapped with a strip of spiralled leather. It comes with a wood-core scabbard covered in dark brown leather and affixed with a wooden suspension loop. The protective tip chape of the scabbard is of steel.

Excellent deal This sword deserves a good review. The fittings and profile are better looking than shown here. Also, mine has better specs than advertised: point of balance just under 7″ from guard, grip 4 3/8″. Blade is very thick and the edges are about 2mm thick, with the tip area being the thickest. Good for what I wanted it for – a low cost Norman / XII practice sword. Very sturdy, no wiggles. I sanded the blade to be lenticular in the last 1/3. Could have taken a lot more metal off the tip and improved the balance, but it’s not too bad as-is at 6 3/4″ now. Sharpening would improve balance further if done well. All up weight is under 3 lbs. Edges are very straight. Scabbard is very sturdy – wish all my swords had a scabbard like this one.

Based on the stats listed here and those provided by other owners of this sword, its easy to see that its trash. Do not buy, massive waste of money.

A fantasic weapon. A beautiful design, a strong feel, and a good weight for a bigger guy. The scabbard is amazing with a great construction. The cross guard is a little loose, but not enough to effect performance, just a little noise when moving in wide arcs. The draw is tight and holds the blade well. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Well, I gotta say, I’m sold on deepeeka now.

Bear in mind I bought this as a project sword with an entire overhaul of it in mind, but as a base for that this way exceeded my expectations. The grip needs to be shortened and the pommel offset as the biggest thing, but hardly any makers do this in the first place, and certainly none in this price range.

I love this blade. I’m going to reprofile the unfullered area quite a bit to thin it down and make it lenticular, but there are zero complaints from me here. You can really tell visually it was hand forged as the texture of it is quite comparable with originals and not CNC machined stuff. The point of percussion is just about an inch down into the fullered area currently before any of my modifications. The vibrations in this are wonderful, I was very surprised. It’s much closer to an old sword than a lot of the modern production stuff I’ve handled.

I think the issue most people experience with these swords is with the grips being long, which is not Deepeeka’s fault at all. For the people who say they’re too heavy… I think they need to do a bit more physical work with their hands.

I won’t list out everything I plan on doing with this, mostly small things, but I highly recommend this to anyone with the workspace for overhauling one. It’s an incredible base to make something spectacular.
