Help

The Greek Kopis is a powerful hacking sword, its wide tip giving weight and impetus to the strike beyond that of the tapered blade. Its name in Greek literally means ''To Strike''. Many Greek depictions of warriors wielding the Kopis show the blade raised overheard, ready to descend for the foe-rending chop. The Kopis was an influential sword, as the armies of Alexander carried and demonstrated it to all corners of the ancient world. It is postulated that the Turkish Yatagan and even the Nepalese Kukri blades found their forward curve inspired by the Hellenistic Kopis. The similiar Falcata of Classical Iberia (Spain) appears to be derived from the Kopis. The forward chopping blade was favored by horsemen and the Romans found the Iberian swords to be outlandishly damaging to their helmets - perhaps inspiring the Mainz Pattern Gladius with its weighted tip. Some arms historians have postulated that the ancestor of the Kopis is the forward curved sickle Khopesh sword of Ancient Egypt.

Made in the Czech Republic, this Kopis is made with a high carbon steel blade. Intended for stage combat, the blade is thick with ccompletely blunt edges. The blade is welded together with the pommel and guard. The wooden grip sandwiches the tang and is riveted together.
