Dynasty Forge’s Liueyedao, the ‘’Willow Leaf’’ Saber, has a sharp blade imbued with three high carbon steel blades folded together into a single blade. These steels of varying hardness are 1095, 1080 and 1060 high carbon steel - their melding leaves a visible ‘’wood-grain’’ like pattern on the blade. Folding steel was common in Chinese swordsmithing; the technique was done to purify the blade. Adding other steels with different properties was done to create a blade with a mixture of the desired properties of harder and softer steels.

The blade’s dragon collar, guard and pommel are of antique-finished brass. The wooden grip is intricately knotted with tight black leather cord. The sword comes with a companion scabbard of carved wood with antiqued brass fittings and a hanging cord.

The curving form of the Liuyedao style blade appears to have been introduced into China by contact with the Mongols - its curved blade is well suited to slashing, particularly from horseback. The effectiveness of the Liuyedao may be evidenced by its popularity; it was the most common saber used in Ming and Qing dynasties.

The curved arc of the blade paired with its downwardly-curved grip makes the sword an efficient and natural cutting and slashing weapon. The long, angled slope on the blade profile from the spine to the edge gives plenty of room for the blade to transition from thick spine to uninterrupted edge - a form that makes for a an edge that can slice with a minimum of resistance.
