This Bowie knife has a blade of Damascus steel. It has a thick tang that is riveted between plates of horn with brass accents for a grip. The end of the grip has a pre-drilled hole for a lanyard. The crossguard is of brass and its sheath is of leather with a textured leather front panel. The sheath has a retaining strap of leather with a brass button.

Though the Bowie knife is closely associated with Jim Bowie, it was actually his older brother, Rezin Bowie who had designed the original knife while working with blacksmith Jesse Clifft. It was Jim Bowie’s exploits with the knife that popularized the design and cemented its identity as the self-defense weapon and tool of choice for the frontiersman.

Damascus is the melding of two different steels to combine their respective properties into a single blade. The two steels can be seen merged together on the blade in a pattern akin to flowing water or a burl grain wood.
