Made from laminated layers, composite bows are able to achieve substantial power in a smaller form then all-wood self-bows. Self-bows of similar strength must be made long – too long to be useful on horseback or on chariot. The shorter length also minimizes ‘’shock’’ after the fingers release the string, keeping erratic vibration to the arrow shaft to a minimum. Composite bows have been used since the second millennium BC and originated among Asiatic nomadic cultures. The range and power of the composite bow, when combined with a lifetime of horsemanship was a dominating military platform for millennia. Steppe horsemen, quick and hard-hitting were the bane of infantry-centric armies typical of large Empires and States, such as the Roman and Chinese Empires and their respective armies. The mounted horseman is the symbol of steppe nomadic cultures – for the empires of the Huns, Turks, Magyars and Mongols alike were founded on composite bows and horsemanship. If modern practitioners of horse archery are any glimpse into the prowess of steppe armies, then they must have been a truly devastating foe.

This Mongol Bow was made by Grozer of Hungary. It is his Basic model - a bow made of a composite of fiberglass, wood and leather. The bow has been reinforced with tightly wrapped cordage. This bow comes with a bow string and a gray protective cloth bow bag
