This Kris Cutlery Dadao has a blade of sharpened 1060 high carbon steel; It has a diamond cross-section in its geometry, making the central ridge of the blade the widest part of the blade. The leading edge of the sword is also sharpened. The guard is of iron and the grip ring is steel wrapped in brown leather cord. The wooden grip is wrapped with brown poly-blend cord.

This Dadao is light enough to be used single-handedly, though the grip will easily accommodate a second hand if needed. With its wide blade with a long tapering edge plane this Dadao is a dedicated chopper of a blade.

Due to its cleaver-like blade some historians have suggested that the Dadao has its origins as an agricultural tool that was turned into a military weapon fit for outfitting levied troops. Whether or not that is the real origin it became a reality when the Dadao was manufactured in mass numbers to outfit Chinese nationalist troops with a fighting sidearm to resist the Japanese Invasion in the Second Sino-Japanese War. It developed a reputation for effortlessly removing enemy heads and a mere glance at the blade gives immediate credence to such claims.
