The Thaitsuki Hoso Kumiage katana is a mono-steel katana with a blade of high carbon steel tempered to an edge hardness of 60-63 HRC and a body hardness of 30-33 HRC. A hamon of lighter-toned, waved steel can be seen on the edge of the blade. To reduce weight, the blade has a deep bo-hi that will make a distinctive ‘’Whoosh’’ as it ‘’slices’’ the air in a swing. The tsuka handle is wrapped with white rayskin and tightly overlaid with black tsuka-ito cordage of Japanese silk. Flower menuki, crafted in silver, lie beneath the tsuka-ito. The Habaki, Seppa, Kashira and Fuchi are likewise crafted in silver. These silver fittings, if left to oxidize, will leave a distinctive, antiqued-looking patina to the katana fittings. The wooden saya scabbard is coated with black lacquer and has silver fittings. The mouth of the scabbard, the Koiguchi, is fitted with buffalo horn. A brown Sageo cord is knotted to the scabbard. The sword comes with a green silk sword bag and a numbered and signed production certificate. ’’A warrior is worthless unless he rises above others and stands strong in the midst of a storm.’’ - The Hagakure What happened to the reviews? |
