It was no mistake that the Knightly Orders of the Templars, Hopitallers and the Teutonic Knights preferred the double-edged sword with straight (or nearly straight) crossguards. Not just an effective weapon, it was a weapon in the form of the very Cross itself that their orders were dedicated in servitude. Many, such as this example, were further adorned with the symbology of Christianity, and some of the more immaculate blades wielded by the Grandmasters of the Orders were inscribed in Latin with zealous mottos. It was, for them, a symbolic and effective weapon to duel the crescent-like scimitars and sabers of their Islamic foes.
The blade is made of high-carbon steel and is thick and blunted for stage combat. It is peened and welded to the pommel for strength. The grip is spiraled with tan and brown leather.
