This replica Roman Sestertius coin is made from brass and was made by HReplikate of Germany who cast it from an original coin. Emperor Vespasian is depicted on the coin face and the reverse reads ‘’JUDEA CAPTA SC’’ in commemoration of the conquest of Judea and the destruction of the 2nd Jewish Temple. The figures on the back are a mourning woman representing Judea and bound captive man who may represent Judah. The ‘’SC’’ stands for ‘’Senatus Consulto’’ and it is a stamp which affirms the value of the coin as decreed by the Senate despite it not having its material value in metal present.

The Sestertius of the Roman Empire was a large brass coin which was about 4mm in thickness, though it could vary somewhat. The romans used the word ‘’orichalcum’’ for brass which meant ‘’gold-copper’’ in reference to its gold-like appearance when first struck.

Please Note: One coin is included - the main photo shows the front and back of two coins and this is done for display purposes only.
The level of antiquing on your coin may vary slightly from the example photographed.

Approximate Dimensions:
