Covid-19 Update
We are shipping as normal. However, the shipping companies have been experiencing a lot of transit delays under the current situations. Most production Katana these days are created with two bamboo mekugi pegs to fix the blade into the grip. While a ‘’double-redundancy’’ safety feature, the use of two pegs is ahistorical; traditional katana were typically crafted with a single mekugi peg.

The Budo III Katana, like the Budo I and Budo II, are from Kaneie’s Batto Class of swords - These are practical Katanas intended for cutting practice.

The blade is of high carbon 1060 steel - it has been through-hardened to make it a mono-tempered katana. The blade geometry has been kept to a tried-and-true traditional form - a thick spine to give the blade strength and the mass to drive it in and through its target. The edge has the traditional long-sloping taper from the Shinogi ridge line that gives the blade less resistance as it moves through the target, aiding in the separation of it in the strike.

The tsuba is of blackened steel and the fuchi and kashira fittings are of silver plated brass, and feature well-defined tsunami waves. The seppa and habaki are of brass. The wooden tsuka has been wrapped in rayskin and is overlaid with black cotton tsuka-ito. Two silver plated brass menuki have been wrapped into the grip.

The wooden Saya Scabbard has a textured black finish - it has a koiguchi, kojirii and kurigata of polished buffalo horn. It comes with a Japanese Rayon Silk Sageo that is not knotted to the scabbard. Comes with a purple cloth sword bag.
