The Katipunan Sword has a sharp 5160/D2 high carbon steel blade with a tempered hardness of 58-60 HRC. The blade spine is thick and strong and it terminates into a keen cutting edge and a thin profile designed to minimize drag through the cut. The hilt bolster is darkened steel and the grip is finely carved and polished Filipino hardwood.

The sword is paired with a wooden scabbard finished with bands of rattan of a darkened steel retaining clip which locks over the lip of the blade bolster to keep it secured in the scabbard.

The Katipunan sword derives it name from the Katipunero – a brotherhood who opposed the Spanish occupation who favored blades such as this. It is easy to see why – the forward sloped blade which gracefully widens at its striking point will deliver vicious chops and grievously powerful hacking blows. It is a similar concept to that seen on the Khukuri, but in a longer sword blade. Though it is focused on cutting power, the blade terminates into a deceptively deadly thrusting point.

Sharpened and ready to go, this Filipino sword will make short work of your practice cutting targets.

Please Note: It is common for the tropical hardwood used to craft the grip and scabbard of these weapons to develop small cracks as the wood adjusts to our temperate environment. We inspect these items for major cracks and will not send such items to you. We will however send items that may have small, light cracks. These are light cosmetic blemishes and we will not send you an item with a crack that impacts the structural integrity and usefulness of the weapon. These small and light cracks are common to the type of wood used.

By routinely applying a light coating of protective oil you can protect the wood from drying out in your own home.
