This Early Medieval Sword by Michael Tinker Pearce is a lively and agile performance cutting sword. The blade is 5160 high carbon steel that has been marquenched to possess a tempered hardness of 53 HRC. To ensure that the shoulder and tang of the blade are better able to resist shock, they were tempered are a softer hardness of 45 - 48 HRc. The blade is generally lenticular in cross section with a fuller to remove unnecessary weight in the base of the blade.

The crossguard is 5160 high carbon steel and the pommel is mild steel. The grip is crafted from poplar wood which was overlaid in linen cord before being tightly bound in green chrome-tanned leather. A hex-nut secures the hilt components to the tang. Included with the sword is a wooden scabbard wrapped in matching green leather.

With its relative lightweight and good balance, this sword does not feel taxing on the wrist or arms and it is quite responsive to handling. It is also a deceptively powerful cutting sword; the blade tapers significantly in the main cutting portion of the sword to create a shallow plane with a flattened oval cross-section. This is a form that minimizes drag and aids in allowing the sword to power through its stroke unencumbered. Also, the blade does not flex too much, ensuring that little power is lost to flex upon contact with the target. This extra bit of rigidity and its narrow tip profile also serve to make the sword quite adept in the thrust.
