This custom Hauswere by ‘’Tinker’’ Pearce is a large and robustly constructed medieval fighting knife with a 5160 high carbon steel blade with a finished marquenched hardness of 53 HRC. The prominent nagel and bolsters are 5160 spring-steel and the grip was completed with two scales of well-polished Rosewood - a pre-drilled hole will accommodate a wrist lanyard.

To improve weight distribution and balance the tang has a tapered form; thicker at the tip and thinner at the bottom. Though it is still thick at its most thin portion, the tapering of unnecessary thickness brings the point of balance farther forward to ensure this large defense knife is not hilt heavy. The knife comes with a wooden scabbard which is bound in leather.

’’Hausewere (literally house-defense) were a variety of large knives popular with the Burghers of Germany and other centeral European countries in the late Medieval/early Renaissance period. For medieval recreations this knife makes a good, handy alternative to a walking-around sword, as well as a useful camp tool.’’ - Michael ‘’Tinker’’ Pearce
