This late 15th to early 16th century Complex-Hilt Bastard Sword by Michael Tinker Pearce is a deft and agile cut-and-thrust sword – a very well-balanced sword it can be used with one or two hands as needed. The blade is 5160 high carbon steel which was marquenched to a spring temper with a hardness of HRc 52.

The swept guard of the hilt and the pommel are blued steel. The grip is fashioned from hardwood and wrapped in #7 linen cord before being bound in leather. The blade is durably anchored into the hilt with a cylindrical nut assembly and it can be dismounted if desired. Included with the sword is a wooden scabbard which can be stained to your own preferred hue or even wrapped in your own leatherwork.

This Bastard Sword with its tapered profile excels at the thrust and its blade retains enough width to ensure it is a highly capable cutter in experienced hands as well. The swept hilt adequately safeguards the hand and the above-guard finger ring allows for the safe fingering of the guard for improved control, particularly when pointing the sword for a thrust. The sword is quite well balanced for both one or two handed use; the grip easily accommodates a second hand for speed and leverage and the waisted grip allows for easy single-handed use.
