This replica of the US Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officers Sword has a blade of 1055 high carbon steel. The entirety of the hilt is brass and the grip is wrapped with twisted brass wire. Included is a scabbard of steel with a pair of steel hanging rings.

Like many swords of its time including the famous Model 1860 cavalry sword, the US 1840 NCO sword was heavily inspired by contemporary French military swords of the time. This sword was used by sergeants in both the Mexican-American War and used by both the Union and the Confederacy in the US Civil War. Most of these were made by the famed Ames manufactory and most were actually issued with blunt edges because the sword was intended to be a thrusting sword. Shorter-bladed variants were created for the regimental musicians and shorter NCOs.
