During the 15th century armor reached the peak of effectiveness. To combat this an improved sword design was required. The Arms & Armor Schloss Erbach Arming Sword is an excellent example of this class of sword. Well balanced, it could be used single handed, or with two hands to deliver a powerful blow or a deadly thrust. This type of sword is often illustrated in the fight manuals of the period such as Talhoffer's work on personal combat. Based on an original German sword Circa 1480-1500 formerly in the Collection at Schloss Erbach Germany, now privately held. Features a sharpened carbon steel blade, solid steel guard and pommel, and leather wrapped grip.
