The axes used by Knights had to be functional in both combat and in-camp usage (i.e.. chopping, clearing camp, etc.). The head of this axe was a typical style of the mid 14th century.
The large beak spike was added as armor became harder to penetrate. Most typical round spikes would penetrate but would break off when you would try to pry it out. This beak style spike was narrow and flat to allow penetration but was tall enough to allow strength that would allow the knight to pry it back out quickly once he banished his foe. Generation 2 Knight's Axe features a sharpened high carbon steel axe head and 3'' back spike mounted to a hardwood handle. Includes leather edge covers.
