Shirasaya means literally ''white scabbard'' and refers to the plain housing of the blade featured here. Historically katana blades were stored or transported in this fashion when not expected to see use for a long period. The blade is made of tempered high carbon steel and hand sharpened. The shirasaya is plain unfinished wood. This sword can be displayed as is or the blade can be removed and used with a different mount, allowing one to modify an existing sword or create a new one. Unfortunately more detailed blade specs are not available on this item, but the blade seems to be a good quality and features a bo-hi groove and subtle hamon.
