There has been contact between Scotland and Scandinavia from early times and this has left traces in the type and style of weapons used. Intermarriage between Viking Nobles and Scottish Clans was common in the Northern Scotland (Caithness and Sutherland), the Western Scottish Isles and the Hebrides. Clans such as the Gunn, MacDonald and MacLeod have Nordic roots. All Clans of this unique heritage have a reputation as skilled fighters and these same Clans were some of the earliest to use the longer swords and employ archers in their ranks.

On effigies and on surviving 15th Century ceremonial swords, there can be seen a distinct Viking influence on Scottish blades. This is made apparent in the Albion Caithness sword which has a five-lobed Viking-style pommel on a sword with the long sweeping quillons of a Scottish sword. The inspiration for this sword came from a warriors grave effigy in the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.

The Caithness has a hand-ground high carbon steel blade that is tempered for flexibility and edge retention. The crossguard and pommel are cast from mild steel. The grip is stabilized birch wood, cord-wrapped and fitted over with tight leather.

The sword grip comes in a selection of colors, please select an option below.

Like a peice of art Title speaks for itself!!! Well worth the wait and money cause it’s one helluva blade. Light, wide, sharp, and an overall delight to hold. Absolutely no concerning defects to the blade so far after some light/mild cutting abuse.
