When seeing original swords of war from the 13th and 14th C., one is always impressed by their powerful presence. A massive size combines with harmonic proportions, lending them a majestic grace. Despite being rather massive they have such a balance that they could be wielded in one hand, although two-handed use was probably preferred.

Albions Baron Type XIIa has a blade shaped to allow certain stiffness for the thrust while being primarily dedicated to slashing and cleaving. The powerful mass of this sword is well managed by a careful distribution of mass together with a long grip and results in very good handling characteristics. This is a sword for the battlefield but can be used in the fencing techniques of Liechtenauer, although the wide and acutely sharp blade does not lend itself too well for half-swording. It is a classic example of the knightly battlefield longsword of the late 13th and early 14th centuries.

The hand ground high carbon steel blade is tempered for flexibility and edge retention. The crossguard and pommel are cast from mild steel. The grip is cord-wrapped wood fitted over with tight leather.

Beautiful, well balanced The Baron sword, a great sword, very sharp, I love how it
cuts. The only one thing I must say is that the handle could’ve been thicker, I’m Five 5’11” 220 lbs. with big hands for the size of this sword you’d want a thicker handle then you will feel the true power of the sword, easier to manuver easier to direct the cut the block. Other than that I GREATLY RECOMMEND THIS SWORD YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED. And remember you can alway customized your handle/grip etc.

Beautiful, well balanced I actually meant to give it 4 stars for some reason it only showed three on the first rating.

Magnificent Baron After spending the morning fondling this magnificent new sword, a epiphany had come over me…all the years of wasted time & money spent on dealing with other sword manufacturers was coming to a end. NOBODY can compare to the quality of Albion! The Baron came to me surprisingly much larger than I expected. Big sword, but not at all cumbersome… fit & Finnish is excellent, the gap between blade & guard is almost non existent. The guard & pommel are well executed, without pits or flaws. The leather grip is seamless & tight. The satin finish of the blade is even and flawless. The pictures of this sword doesn’t do it justice , it’s truly amazing

The Baron is one of Albion’s first Next Generation models, and still one of its best. When I think of a “grete swerd of war,” the Baron is what I picture. It’s just an iconic sword, and it well deserves that reputation. It’s big, it’s powerful, it’s authoritative, but it’s also balanced very well and surprisingly wieldy. While I personally wouldn’t want to use it one handed, it is possible, and in two hands it comes alive. With proper technique, it’s an absolute beast of a cutter, but it’s not going to do you any favors – you do need good technique to cut well.
