This Greek Corinthian Helm is crafted from 18 gauge steel which has been treated to have an antiqued bronze finish. The helm is blackened and unlined on the inside – included with the helmet is a separate padded cotton arming cap.
Probably one of the most iconic war helmets of history, the Corinthian helm gives excellent, overall protection to the head whilst giving suitable allowances for vision, hearing and breathing without excessive obstruction. Purpose made for the Hoplite Phalanx, the Corinthian protects the wearers head from the chaotic scrum of the tight phalanx melee where protection from surprising attack angles and unseen projectiles was an imperative.
Though it is a very practical helm, the Greeks made sure it was suitably stylized; the added eyebrows, stylized eyes and elongated faceplate portrays a noble, yet intimidating visage. Contoured and stately, this union of practical function and aesthetic form is in itself a reflection of Greek and Hellenistic culture.
