The Bonny Scottish Dirk features a tempered carbon steel blade with crisp etchings of the traditional Scottish foliage and thistle motif on both sides. The black wooden handle is carved in an interweave pattern dotted with ornamental nickel silver tacks. The sheath is wood covered with leather and reinforced with metal throat and tip. This thing is gorgeous This was my first buy from KOA a while ago and it is still one of my favorites. The handle fits the hand well and comfortably, I got the sharpening service and the edge was sharp, the sheath is well made. The biggest thing that I like about this piece is that the etching on the blade is absolutely beautiful, this is also slightly a problem. Because the blade is so nice, I don’t want to use it for anything. I haven’t done any test cuts with the blade or anything like that. I love this thing but I cannot say for the strength of the construction, it feels solid in hand but I haven’t tested it. Another problem that I have with it is the leather belt loop. It is useless. It’s not positioned on the sheath at the balance point so the knife doesn’t hang vertically on one’s hip. I had to buy another dirk frog from KOA to actually be able to wear and carry this piece. In my opinion it is a lovely show piece that is a bit expensive, it may have a function as a cutting or work blade but I won’t risk damaging my beautiful blade to find out. As always the KOA staff was super helpful and the shipping was fast.
