A symbol for longevity, aged wisdom and loyalty, the crane is traditionally believed to live for a thousand years in Japan and is held above other birds in its reverence and honorable dignity. Thus it is a fitting motif for the katana of a traditional and honorable samurai warrior.
The blade of Cold Steels Mizutori Katana is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and has been differentially clay-tempered to endow the blade with a hardened cutting edge coupled with a shock-absorbing body and spine. The blade spine is solid and has omitted a bo-hi groove in order to retain the extra blade mass to aid in powering it through hard-hitting strikes and decisive cuts.
The tsuba, as well as the fuchi collar and kashira pommel cap, are all crafted from iron and embellished with 24 karat gold leaf detailing. The wooden tsuka grip has been channeled and fitted with panels of genuine rayskin. A brown ito grip wrap with a pair of brass menuki fitted beneath the ito folds completes the katana.
The saya scabbard is carved from wood and given a glossy, black lacquered coat for a finish. The tip is capped with an iron fitting with a detailed crane in a style to match the hilt fittings. The sageo is knotted brown cord and the sword comes with a embroidered sword bag.
Please Note: Although these items are brand new & coming from Cold Steel some of the sayas /scabbards may suffer from minor scuffs & scrapes. We can no longer weed out the “blemished” items from this product as the majority of them come this way. Swords are still inspected by K.O.A. for more major defects.
