Lord of Battles – Damascus and Koftgari Inlay Dagger with Round Pommel

Additional information

This sinuous and elegant dagger is a compact showcase of many of the skilled bladesmithing traditions of India; The unsharpened blade is vibrantly patterned damascus steel – its unique form created when the smith worked two different steels into a single billet with which he forged the blade. On a single side of the blade a leaf or sunburst-like design has been inlaid in silver.

The steel hilt is entirely decorated by silver inlay that was carefully pounded into an etched form and then annealed – this is the technique of Koftgari inlay and is a hallmark of traditional decorative metalworking in India and the surrounding region. The blade tang was rooted into the hilt by filling the hollow interior of the hilt with a hardened resin. This is a traditional way that Indian bladed weapons have been finished.

The scabbard is blackened steel with intricate koftgari inlay to match the dagger. It has been lined with velvet to cushion the blade from scratches.
