Lord of Battles – Damascus and Koftgari Inlay Dagger

Additional information

This Indian Dagger is a compact showcase of the traditional bladesmithing arts of India. The blade is forged from Damascus steel and the melding and folding of differing steel creates the vibrant ripple-like patterning seen throughout the surface of the blade. On the blade is an emblem picked out in silver which was inlaid into the damascus for a bit of embellished accenting.

The hilt of steel is immaculately detailed with silver inlay created using the traditional koftgari technique. A painstaking process, the craftsman etches the design by hand before carefully hammering in the silver wire. Once in place the hilt is placed into an oven to anneal the silver into the etched grooves for a permanent silver-inlay design. Like the hilt, the scabbard of steel is etched in matching koftgari-inlay patterning. In keeping with traditional construction the blade is anchored into the hilt by filling the hollow hilt with a hardened and tough gum resin – a traditional method used to construct swords in India.
