This coif is constructed from dome-riveted flat rings alternating with solid flat rings. This alternating rivet construction lowers the cost of the armor by reducing the amount of careful rivet-work required. The rings are made of mild steel. The rings are left in their natural steel finish. The rings are 17 gauge in thickness and 9 mm in diameter.
A chainmail coif ably protects the head from cuts on the dark age or medieval battlefield – it is best paired with a padded cap to cushion the head from the impact of blows and to prevent the entangling of hair with mail.
