This Ko Katana with its especially wide and shortened blade is purpose designed to be a powerful cutter and a particularly vicious sword for combat in confined spaces. Unlike the short-handled and slim bladed Wakizashi, this Ko Katana retains a long grip to allow for two-handed use to maximize agility and cutting power.
The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and differentially tempered with the traditional clay-tempering method. The blade was polished first by machine and was then finished by hand for its final polishing.
The tsuba, fuchi and kashira hilt fittings are deeply antiqued brass detailing picked out in a silver finish and the habaki and seppa are silvered. The wood tsuka grip is inlaid with panels of genuine rayskin and then knotted over with ito cord of black silk.
The sword comes with a wood scabbard which has been finished in glossy black lacquer and a black sageo cord. Also included is a cloth sword bag for storage and transport.
Please Note: It is common for the lacquer finish of the scabbards to have minor cosmetic blemishing. Also, the Menuki may not match what is pictured as it is common for the manufacturer to use different menuki for different production runs. It is also common for the sword to be configured for a single bamboo mekugi peg to be used instead of two.
