This classically styled Katana from Dynasty Forge has a folded blade forged from 1095, 1080 and 1060 high carbon steel which were all melded into a single blade billet by the swordsmith. The blade was tempered in the traditional clay-tempered manner to give it a differentially-hardened form and a genuine hamon line. This method of tempering gave it a hardened, wear-resistant edge and a shock-absorbing body and spine.
The bladesmith has omitted the weight-reducing bo-hi spine groove to retain the spine mass of the blade to ensure that it strikes and cuts with full, unabated force. The blade was finished with a fine mirror polish to bring out its hamon and its folded steel patterning to produce a pattern akin to rippling water throughout the blade body.
The tsuba, fuchi and kashira hilt fittings depict the roiling waves of the turbulent ocean and they are crafted with highly dimensional fine detail and have a silvered finish. The seppa and habaki likewise have a matched silvered finish. The wood grip is fitted with genuine rayskin and knotted over with black silk tsuka ito.
The companion saya scabbard is carved to fit from wood and has a glossy black lacquer finish coupled with a matching black sageo cord. The saya is tipped with a silvered wave fitting to match the sword hilt. Included is a cloth sword bag.
Please Note: It is common for the lacquer finish of the scabbards to have cosmetic blemishing. Also, the Menuki may not match what is pictured as it is common for the manufacturer to use different menuki for different production runs. It is also common for the sword to be configured for a single bamboo mekugi peg to be used instead of two.
