Indian Katar – Deepeeka

(1 customer review)

$39.95$56.95

The Katar is the oldest and most characteristic of the Indian knife weapons. The peculiarity lies in the handle which is made up of two parallel bars connected by two, or more, cross pieces, one of which is at the end of the side bars and is fastened to the blade. The remainder forms the handle which is at right angle to the blade. Katars were used as punch daggers to penetrate enemy armor. This katar is made of unsharpened carbon steel. Includes a leather scabbard.

Not perfect, but a very good addition to any blade collection.
They are only $45 at the time I am writing this, so I am taking their low cost into consideration when giving this review.
The build quality is not great. I ordered 2 and one of them has a slightly crooked blade, which is noticeable just by looking at it casually.
The welds are pretty obvious as well.
But what do you expect for $45?

On to the positives. They seem very sturdy. The steel of the arm guards is thick, and the blades are heavier in the hand than you might think.
There is no way to put a tang on a weapon like this, but the blade does not seem fragile at all. I have no intention of doing stress tests, but they feel like they could punch through thin plywood repeatedly without suffering damage.

The scabbard is a pleasant surprise. It fits very well and actually looks nicer than the picture on this website.

If I actually had to practice or fight with them, I would wear gloves. The steel edges on the arm guard really bite into your hand if you just hold them for an extended period of time.

All in all if you are looking for that “exotic weapon” this is something you definitely want to pick up.
P.S. the sharpening service did a pretty good job on them.
