Additional information
This book is a comprehensive Step-by-Step Guide to the Fundamentals of Rapier Combat and instructor Devon Boorman uses a clear and modern approach to establish a foundation for learning the art of the rapier. Beginning with a fundamental and powerful understanding of body mechanics the student then progresses to learn the essential techniques of footwork, movement, defence and attack. Built upon these is critical timing and blade control; the techniques that made the Italian school of Rapier efficient, athletic, strategic and ultimately revered. It is clear why this weapon, which was often paired with dagger, cloak or shield, was the choice companion for the duellists of the Renaissance and Deon Boormans presentation ties all these aspects together into a clear strategic framework to link all these essential components together and to train and condition them into the body to achieve long term mastery. Though a beautiful martial art on its own, Italian Rapier essentials can provide informative and practical theory applicable to almost any close-combat weapons tradition.
This book pairs well with the Introduction to Italian Rapier DVD for a rounded tutelage on the Italian Rapier.
