The Twin Peaks Liao Dao is a 1:1 recreation of an surviving 1000 year old double handed Liao Dao of the Liao Dynasty (916 – 1125). This unique sword pairs a large and powerfully curved blade which delivers impressive and decisive slicing and chopping power; the thick spine of the blade not only gives it excellent durability, but use that spinal mass to power it through a cut. A look at the wedge-shaped cross section of the blade gives its wide profile a well angled slope that terminates into thin edge that bites into and through a target for a clean separation. A long grip ensures that there is plenty of leverage for wielding this sword effectively.
With its long curved upper edge, distinctive twin peaks spine, multi loop hand guard and huge gourd shape plate pommel, Twin Peaks Liao Dao is unique in it’s design. Menacing, full of untamed energy and yet at the same time, beautiful, these are the vibes one can feel in the presence of this exquisite Liao Dao. The blade is forged from well-tempered high carbon Manganese alloy spring steel (GB 60Si2MnA); a steel with properties similar to 5160 spring steel and a tempered hardness of 56-58 HRc . The guard, pommel and guard collar are forged from iron and the grip is polished wood. The tang runs the full length of the grip and is dual-pinned for a solid construction. Included is a blade scabbard of faux leather.
Liao Dynasty was an empire of the Khi-tan people in the northeast of China contemporary with the Song Dynasty. Khi-tan people have their own sophisticated culture and language.
