The Roman Pompeii style gladius represents the first major change to the Roman sword since it was adopted from the Spanish ”Gladius Hispaniensis” during the early Republic. This thinner style blade was used almost exclusively for thrusting at the chest, belly and groin of the enemy, but could still deliver a respectable cut if required to do so. This Roman sword features an unsharpened carbon steel blade. The grip is made of bone flanked by a solid wood guard and pommel. The matching scabbard is wood with red leather wrap and embossed brass accents.

1 review for Roman Pompeii Gladius – Deepeeka – Deepeeka

    1. Matt DiGirolamo

Excellent Sword I bought one of these for an early 2nd Century Roman impression. It fits the bill very well, and got a pass from the head of my group, a gentleman that helped start Roman reenacting in the US. Would highly recommend for educational and non-combat events.

      Pros:

      Gorgeous Scabbard

      Historically accurate appearance

      Forward weighted

VERY light for a Deepeeka blade. Feels close to the actuals, regarding weight.

Evidence of cheap construction (solder where the blade meets the guard and glue where the pommel meets the handle) are very hard to spot. This blade covers up the fact that it’s inexpensive very well.

      Cons:

Not likely to stand up well in a reenactment fight (to be expected from a $150 blade)

One of the scabbard rings was not soldered shut. Not a big deal, and likely a fluke, but I’m still noting it.
