Magyar Composite Bow

SKU: FDMA Categories: , ,

$149.95

This Magyar Horsebow was handcrafted in Hungary from laminated layers of wood and fiberglass. The nocks and ears of the bow are layered wood and the limbs of the bow are protected by an overlay of leather and reinforced with tightly-fitted bindings of cord.

The bow is available in two draw weights; 35 and 50 pounds at 28 inches of pull. Included is a protective cloth bow bag and a bowstring. The color of the leather used can vary from black, brown, green and gray.

Historically, composite bows were created from a wood, horn, sinew and bound together into a springy laminate with strong glues. The sinuous profile of these strung horsebows is designed to impart great power into the arrow and to cast it smoothly. In capable hands they were fast firing and deadly – but when coupled with a horse and the great skill required to meld horsemanship and archery it became the weapon that shattered kingdoms and empires asunder in hails of iron-tipped rain.

Replacement strings for this bow are linked below the photos.
