This Tagalog style sword was crafted in the Phillipines; it has a sharpened blade of 5160/D2 high carbon steel. The blade was tempered to have a through-hardness of 58-60 HRC. The grip is of a dark, carved native hardwood and the bolster is of dark steel. It comes with a carved wood scabbard with rattan bands and a sword-retention clip of dark steel.

The Itak is a outdoor tool for harvesting crops and slicing open coconuts - but like many blades from the Philippines it is easily pressed into defense and war when need arises - for a blade that can chop coconuts can just as surely chop a foe. Some Itak, such as this, are made with defense in mind. It has a widened chopping blade that delivers fearsome chops and slashes. The blade terminates in a sharp tip that lends itself to a thrust. ''Itak'' is a word for bladed weapon.

Please Note: Due to being crafted in a tropical environment with native woods, it is common for these weapons to develop thin, minor cracks in the wood and the scabbard as the woods adjust to our more temperate environment. Small cracks in items sent to you will not be harmful to the structural integrity of the item. Also - The decorative rattan wrapping can be brittle and may crack or break if handled roughly.

It is recommended that a light coating of protective oil is used to protect the wood from dryness and cracking.
