This Danish Axe has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel and a haft of hardwood. The head is riveted onto the straight haft.

Even though the head is riveted it is common for the axehead to have a slight wiggle – This is a problem that can be corrected by pounding a wooden axe splint into the top of the haft to expand the wood within the axe socket. We sell axe wedges that can be used for this purpose separately and they are linked beneath the photos.

Small Dane Axe This axe had been catching my eye for a while and due to the price, I had to give it a go. I was just looking for something functional for light reenactment battles and eye candy to carry while in Viking kit at events and Ren faire. I was a bit skeptical but as soon as I picked this guy up I was pleasantly surprised. For less than 40 bucks you get a l looking, robust axe had made from overall pretty good steel. Mine rings when clinked against anything. Now the only problem I had with it I already knew about before buying it. It’s very short for a dane axe. So I got it expecting to replace the shaft. The original handle is hickory though so if you like a shorter length then it would be perfect. I took a 55 inch oak handle and fit the head onto it. Looks great and works nice for light combat. Would recommend.

I just got mine a week ago. Splits wood well….. Maybe heads just as well.

It’s a good axe if you’re looking for a prop or even for cutting if you want to sharpen it. Does not seem flimsy at all, and is quite robust. If you want a cheap Dane axe, this is about as cheap as you can get. For $30 you’re getting your money’s worth.

Two chops into wood and the handle broke into three pieces. Now, for the price, even just the axe head is an alright deal. If you’re just using it for costume, dry swinging without contacting anything, or to hang on a wall, great. If you intend to immediately replace the handle before use, great. Any kind of wood is garbage for impact resistance if pulled from the wrong part of the tree, so saying it’s hickory just means it’s the piece of hickory no other respectable company would use for their axe handle intended for actual use. But at this price, what would you expect? A great, 3ft piece of hardwood for a handle likely would cost you as much as this entire axe, or more. So please keep in mind, these 4 stars are for the price point, not the performance. The handle was also basically a dowel rod in shape (perfect cylinder), and a thick one at that. This was not designed for use, but the axe head can be redeemed if you pair it with a good handle.
