Built as a fully functional blade rather than a decorative piece, this katana emphasizes durability, efficient cutting geometry, and clean traditional styling suited for rigorous practice and study.
Continuing the commitment to refinement and advancement, this reissue features newly tooled furniture with crisp, clean lines that recreate the clear appearance of early production models made from fresh production molds. The tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki display a refreshed and sharply defined design while maintaining the understated aesthetic that defines the Practical series. The sword retains the proven blade geometry of the original that defined it as a powerful and impactful cutter with a long blade that brought plenty of leverage, force and speed to the cut.
The blade measures approximately 30 inches in length and is forged from resilient 1566 high carbon steel, differentially-tempered to a hardness of 58–62 HRc at the cutting edge and 38–42 HRc through the body and spine. This heat treatment produces a hard, wear-resistant edge supported by a tougher, more flexible core for improved durability and shock resistance during cutting practice. Weighing approximately 3 pounds with a point of balance about 4.5 inches forward of the guard, the sword delivers authoritative cutting power while maintaining responsive control.
Designed with enhanced leverage in mind, the Practical Pro features a long tsuka measuring over 14 inches in length. This long grip provides exceptional control and stability for two-handed use and is wrapped in leather to ensure a secure and comfortable hold during demanding cutting exercises. The traditional round Kuruma-style tsuba, representing the Wheel of Dharma, reinforces the sword’s theme of elegant simplicity, while the understated fittings contribute to its restrained yet purposeful character.
