Gokudō Hamidashi: Compact yet Formidable

The Gokudō Hamidashi is the newest addition to the Gokudō collection of BattleBlades and it embodies the essence of a traditional Japanese tanto with a compact yet commanding presence. Featuring a small, blackened iron tsuba (hand guard), this short sword is both stealthy and fierce, outshining its larger counterparts, the Gokudō Shoto and Gokudō Aikuchi, in agility and concealability.

Blade Craftsmanship:

The Hamidashi’s hand-forged T10 steel nagasa (blade) is a masterpiece of precision, showcasing a distinctive clay-tempered hamon with intricate patterns. Measuring with an extended 130 mm kissaki (tip), the blade’s geometry is expertly crafted to deliver optimal curvature for maximum cutting power and effortless stabbing capability. The nakago (tang) and tapered nagasa are meticulously balanced to ensure exceptional handling and striking force, making this tanto ideal for close-quarter combat as both a stabbing and chopping weapon.

Design and Features:

  • Tsuba and Fittings: The smooth-edged, blackened iron tsuba is paired with a brass habaki and seppa, enhancing both durability and aesthetic appeal.

  • Tsuka (Handle): Wrapped in black samegawa (rayskin) for a secure grip, the Rikko-shaped tsuka features laughing Buddha menukis strategically placed to fill palm spaces, ensuring a firm and comfortable hold.

  • Accents: Buffalo horn is used for the fuchi, which secures the seppa and tsuba, as well as the uniquely slanted kojiri and kashira, adding a distinctive touch.

  • Saya (Scabbard): The custom hardwood saya is adorned with a textured lacquer water-droplet and wrapped in rich silk sageo. Buffalo horn kurigata and koiguchi complete the elegant look.

Compact enough for easy concealment yet robust for combat, the Gokudō Hamidashi strikes a perfect balance of form and function. It comes with an embroidered BattleBlades silk sword bag and a serial-numbered certificate, underscoring its exclusivity and craftsmanship. The Gokudō Hamidashi is a testament to the art of Japanese sword-making, blending traditional techniques with modern precision to create a blade that is as beautifully elegant as it is deadly.
