The Hastings Medieval Sword from Darksword Armory is a purpose-built knightly sword drawing its inspiration from the practical, but powerful-striking swords of the 11th century which would have been wielded into battle William’s Norman Knights and Men-at-Arms. Authoritative and hard-hitting it is a fine sword to form the center point of a collection or a sword suited for reliable and repetitive test and target cutting.
Hand forged from 5160 high-carbon steel and dual tempered to possess an HRc hardness of 60 at the edges and a core of about 48 Hrc, the blade is differentially-hardened with a tough, resilient core and a hardened cutting edge suited to demanding cut-and-thrust work. The blade measures about 32 inches in length and features a strong, broad profile optimized for powerful cuts while maintaining sufficient stiffness for effective thrusting. With a weight of just over 3 lbs and a point of balance positioned over 5 inches from the guard, the sword delivers a solid, authoritative feel in the cut.
The hilt is durably constructed with a solid steel guard protects the hand while the blade’s tang is securely peened over the pommel. The grip measures almost 5 inches and is formed from wood and wrapped in leather to provide a secure, comfortable hold. Included with the sword is a wood-core scabbard which is individually fitted to the blade and completed with a matching sword belt. This sheath not only protects the blade but also allows the sword to be worn or displayed in a historically appropriate manner.
