Darksword Armory’s Irish Sword blends historical authenticity with functional design, offering a weapon that is both capable in handling and evocative of the rugged battlefield swords carried by Irish clan warriors of the era. The Irish are one of the few cultures that had regionally unique sword styles not seen elsewhere in Europe. Light enough for able handling yet substantial enough to deliver decisive cuts, it stands as an excellent choice for collectors, historical reenactors, and cutting enthusiasts alike.
Hand forged from 5160 high-carbon steel dual temper which is differentialy-hardened at a Rockwell hardness of 60 at the edge and 48-50 at the core. The sword’s almost 32″ blade features clean geometry and a strong central ridge that maintains structural strength and rigidity for effective cut and thrust use. Weighing in at approximately 2 lbs 11 oz with a point of balance about 6″ from the guard, the Irish Sword exhibits authoritative handling.
The hilt has a solid steel guard and the tang of the blade is solidly peened over the pommel. The grip which measures just under 5″ is made from wood with a wrap of leather to complete the sword.. The leather wrap not only reinforces a secure grip but also provides an authentic tactile feel reminiscent of original late medieval swords. Included with the sword is a wood-core scabbard tailored to its blade length and finished with a matching sword belt. This sheath protects the blade and makes carrying and display both practical and visually cohesive whether worn in period context or mounted as part of a collection.
