Tough, well-tempered and crafted to handle the hardest hits of armored sport fighting and stage combat, this Schiavona from Fabri Armorum takes its design from mid 16th century historical originals which were largely wielded by Balkan mercenaries in the service of the Venetian Republic. These soldiers had a reputation as tough, hard-bitten fighters and their powerful cutting swords with their characteristic basket-hilt crossed blades with the warriors of the Ottoman Empire on many occasions.

The nearly 32″ blade has thick, rebated edges to optimize its resilience for blade-to-blade combat and a wide, spatulate tip for safety. The basket guard affords excellent and encompassing protection to the hand and includes a thumb rest for improved control. The basket and pommel are tough steel and the threaded pommel affixes to the thick tang to complete the sword. The grip is wrapped in spiraled black leather. The complex basket has been painstakingly welded to ensure it is solid and tough.
