This version of the Rotmilan Kriegsmesser comes complete and ready to complete your Landsknecht ensemble with a premium-crafted scabbard and a pair of integrated by-knives with their own dedicated scabbard slots. The by-knives are great utility knives, but plenty deadly on their own as a weapon of last resort.
Among the most formidable swords of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the Germanic Kriegsmesser was feared for its brutal cutting power and the Rotmilan Kriegsmesser by Landsknecht Emporium of Hungary faithfully captures the essence of this iconic weapon. Forged from resilient 6150 high carbon steel, the long blade is expertly tempered and honed to a keen edge. Its thick spine provides impressive strength and rigidity with a sharpened false edge beginning approximately 10 inches from the tip. This spine creates a wedge-like profile that drives the blade through targets with powerful force while the thinner section near the main cutting edge reduces drag for cleaner and more efficient slicing.
The hilt is just as robust; crafted from resilient mild steel, the guard and pommel are securely fitted while the grip is fashioned from two polished hardwood scales which riveted to an exceptionally thick tang. For added durability the tang is peened over the pommel and the blade shoulders are also peened to the crossguard to prevent loosening over time. The prominent Nagel—a signature feature of the German Messer—passes through the guard and is peened on the reverse side to withstand punishing blows without failure. Altogether, the construction of this hilt is built for relentless use.
Landsknecht Emporium products aim to have the aesthetics of historical pieces, not the finish of mass-produced items. Each product bears the signs of its making; small tool marks and imperfections, which do not affect the build quality or usability but give each of our pieces its unique character.

I now own three Landsknecht Emporium blades w/scabbards; the Gustav Messer, the Günther Messer, and the Rotmilan Kriegsmesser. I bought the Günther first and was so blown away by the quality that I took a risk and got the other two. All three blades are of exceptional (and equal) quality, with a satin smooth finish that’s unblemished. The quillons, hilt, nagel and pommels (if it has one) are extremely well made and sturdy showing just enough tooling marks to be obviously handmade but not detracting in the least in looks. The blades are quick and light in the hand. The scabbards are honestly gorgeous, and KoA should really show a pic of the back sides just to show the care that was put into making them.
