This hafted version of the Húskarl Axe by Markland Merchants is a powerful, two handed axe that is as robust as can be for the serious reenactor and Viking enthusiast. It is designed and sourced from a Viking reenactor who wished to make a higher quality and more accurate Danish Axe available and is crafted to a higher level of quality than many other axes with attention paid to fit and finish, such as the fitting of the axe to the stained solid Hickory haft with an axe wedge to taper the haft against the axehead to keep it seated and secured to the haft.
The axehead is tough 1060 steel, hammer forged and tempered to a resilient hardness. The design has the reinforced edge with a wedge cross section that came about in the later years of Viking history as a response to the increasing amount of chainmail armor on the battlefield. This reinforced design not only reinforces the edge for impact on more resistant targets, but brings considerable concussive and cleaving power to the strike. The long haft gives plenty of leverage for landing an almighty smite of a blow to the target, smashing armor and shattering shield alike.
Please Note: we recommend using Butchers block wax to re-seal and moisturize the handles to keep them from drying out and shrinking over time.
