Japanese blades that were not to be used for some time were often removed from their typical Koshirae mountings of tsuba and wrapped tsuka, and mounted into the featureless Shirasaya. Standard Koshirae mountings were prone to accumulate moisture over time, hence the placement of the blade into a protective wood-casing of the Shirasaya. Though Shirasaya mounting is primarily for storage, the blade is securely affixed and can still be used if necessary. Though this is ill-advised as the hand may slip onto the exposed blade during an impact.

This Shirasaya-mounted sword by Musha has a blade of high carbon steel. The habaki is of brass and the sword is mounted into a red-stained Shirasaya with a bamboo pin affixing the tang in its mount. Comes with a black cloth sword bag.

budget sword, really budget… I dont know if this is the same as the super popular rosewood shirasaya. It does have a beautiful handle and saya but the blade seems kinda soft and the finish on the blade has to be the bare minimum, it’s kinda course and scratches from the wire brushed imitation hamon. I was surprised because my musashi miamoto is beautiful… Its obviously a light cutter and theres no claim its otherwise but Shirasaya swords ar not ideal for cutting due to the smooth handle and no tsuba anyway. I spent 2 days sanding polishing the blade up to 2000g now it looks great… But it is very low priced so you cant expect a top shelf sword so if you like it and not looking for a jaw dropping show piece or heavy cutter go for it its still a musashi product which i am impressed with there high quality at there very low price range…

Great Sword This sword has lots of value for its price. I’ve had this blade for over a year now and the blade is still damn sharp and has maintained its beauty. My only recommendation, since this blade could easily go for double its price please keep in mind that you have want to keep a pristine sword take proper care and maintenance as the beautiful rose wood can be scuffed.
