Awsome helm! I bought this helm in Large and I absolutely love it! GDFB makes a good quality helm. This helm has beautiful lines and a long nose guard – to me it’s reminiscent of the Vikings of yore. This helm is heavy 14 gauge steel, yet it feels light enough to be wearable (but it is near the edge of my comfort zone in terms of weight). I’m guessing it’s lighter than most other 14g helms (in fact I have an 18 gauge crusader-style helm which is heavier than this one). While being beautiful and elegant, this helm happened to fit me perfectly, which was my main concern and criteria in picking a helm. I picked this helm over other viking helms due to it’s larger size – the helm I received measures 26″ outer circumference, 24 3/4″ inner circumference (due to liner), 8″ wide side-to-side, and 9 7/16″ length front-to-back (almost 9.5″). Be sure to measure your head, and I would suggest you allow 1″ extra for the width and length, at a minimum. I will wear this helm on my bare head, or perhaps with a thin cap. The fit is too tight to have a heavy arming cap or coif. If I want to wear a coif and helm together, that is what my crusader helm is for (I think it has 31″ circumference!). But this helm is nice due to its good visibility, it doesn’t obstruct your breathing, your head stays cooler, etc. Buy one today, you won’t be disappointed!

Excellent Helm! I bought this to wear as a Norse/Germanic warrior, and it has really been great. The original helm that this is based upon must have really been designed by a warrior who was serious about his armor. This helm feels like it was built for a true warrior of the day. The nasal is well designed for superior protection and the visibility and air flow are outstanding.
The shape of the upper 1/3 of the piece is clearly designed to deflect strikes down and to the side, while the slope from peak to rim make really hard to strike anything but a glancing blow. This piece isn’t some modern day “looks like a real helm”. It’s definitely a true reproduction of an ancient helm that would truly protect it’s owner from just about any weapon imaginable.
This is a copy of an ancient helm, but is very believable as a medieval piece. Unless someone knows about ancient history and is extremely nit-picking, this a fabulous medieval look.
This is a timeless design and a practical piece of excellent armor! Worth every star.
